Vendanges at les Evocelles started on Monday 31 August this year.
Last winter was relatively mild and growth as a whole was in advance. Fortunately, when the lockdown began in France, vineyards were exempted as an essential business and vignerons were able to work throughout the lockdown period, tending to their vines.
The year has been relatively dry, though not as dry as 2019. Also good rain last winter helped to build up the water table. There have been three heatwaves during the summer. There were short periods of heat in June and July followed by a longer scorcher in August, which ended just before the mid point of the last month.
Cooler weather in the second half of August was punctuated by some short breaks of rain since August 15, and especially last week – everyone held their breath but fortunately, no major storms occurred. The rain was very much welcomed by the vines.
Many thanks to all the team, Gérard, Christine, Thibaut, Johan, Amandine and others for another great year in les Evocelles!
