We welcome in 2022 with renewed hope and some relief that we can leave 2021 behind.
The vineyard looks a picture with flourishing vines – the grapes bunches are now formed and set, with the vines enjoying the stretch of hot weather we are experiencing. It appears we are ahead in our usual seasonal harvest timetable as well.
Cromwell is abuzz with holiday makers out on the lake, on the biking trails and taking the opportunity to sample the fine wines available in the region.
Our new release Surveyor Thomson Rosé 2021 has been popular not just for its amazing taste – but also its iridescent colour, gained by leaving the destemmed grapes on the skins for 4 days. We have been referring to it as our “Christmas in a bottle” and it has all the makings of a best seller.
We had the Rosé open for tasting at both of our recent Christmas Market Days. These were held on December 5 and 12 – an idea from David and PM and ably organised by our new Cellar Door Manager, Anne Kirsch. Both days were busy with beautiful Central sun and temperatures.
The market days provided us with the opportunity to try something new, celebrate Christmas and show the versatility of the cellar door as a venue. The design of the building provided a perfect indoor/outdoor flow. We had music from DJ’s the Bannockburn Boys, stallholders from Wanaka, Queenstown, Cromwell and surrounds with a selection of upmarket products, which was appreciated and commented on, by those attending. We took the opportunity to provide a tasting plate of French cheeses along with glasses of our fine wine. The sun shone and the atmosphere was both vibrant and relaxing at the same time, assisted by some great music tracks from different genres and decades.
Just before Christmas we had two local groups: the Cromwell Wine Society and Cromwell Museum enjoy their Christmas functions with us – it was a pleasure for us to be able to assist with their festivities. This added to our already busy events year for 2021 where we had many private lunches, birthdays and anniversaries booked. We look forward to providing a similar service this year.
