This year marks 21 years since we planted the vineyard in Central Otago and 18 years since we started harvesting our grapes. The last two harvests have been challenging in a different way from the others – they have been done in the time of COVID. As David and I have been unable to travel, we have missed these harvests, the first two that we have not been on the ground for. I have missed the sticky fingers, the camaraderie, being outside with everyone, going to the winery and chatting with Dean, and the end of harvest barbecue. (I haven’t missed stressing about the weather, winds, frost risk etc. because, actually, you can do that from anywhere in the world!)
This year, I thought it would be nice to hear from the harvest team their thoughts on what they enjoyed about picking grapes. Thanks to Kate’s camera work, we have put together a short video on what we love about harvest. Also thanks to Simon’s work all year round in the vineyard – we have a harvest. And thanks to the harvest team who I hope had a good time too among the vines!
