We were delighted to host this years Central Otago Young Viticulturist of the Year educational day on Thursday 18th June and even more delighted to introduce to you all our new ‘young viticulturist’ in the making, Vineyard Supervisor, Theresa Woessner.
Meet Theresa! Pop off the cork and a burst of excited bubbles appears. She has a distinct American structure, but a hint of Central Otago thyme (over five years time, in fact). Having worked in hospitality for the past seven years and studied wine through both WSET & CMS, she’s recently hopped into the vineyard at Domaine Thomson to put all her theoretical knowledge into practice. If she’s not working in the vineyard or the cellar door, you might run into her on a jog up Ben Lomond, a bike at 7 mile, or off tramping in the bush. On top of adventuring and work, she is also studying winemaking and oenology, and is looking forward to continuing to learn more about the industry while at Domaine Thomson. We are loving having Theresa on the team!
It was fantastic to see so many contenders for this years competition which is being held on 16th July. Following on from Simons win last year and the previous two Central Otago winners, Annabel Bulk and Nick Paulin, Nicky Grandorge from NZ Wine’s Young Viticulturist Competition, is delighted that not only the competition can go ahead this year but at the caliber of the contenders.
Our very own newly appointed Vineyard Supervisor, Theresa, is hoping to gain one of the coveted spots in this years event although she does have a few more years under her belt before the age cut off! We are thrilled to have her join our team and wish her all the very best.
The future of viticulture here at Domaine Thomson and in Central Otago is definitely looking bright!
