Surveyor Thomson 2024, Pinot Rosé

Named in tribute to explorer John Turnbull Thomson, this elegant Central Otago Rosé is crafted from hand-picked Pinot Noir from the North Block. Wild fermentation followed a 4-day cold soak, with 40% aged in French oak and 60% in stainless steel for four months. The result is a fresh, refined, and expressive wine that captures the character of its terroir.

First notes of maraschino cherry, redcurrant, spice, and floral aromatics lead into a
warm, rich, velvety texture—showing exuberance, warmth, and softness.

Gevrey Chambertin “Les Evocelles” 2018, Pinot Noir

2018 was considered a hot vintage with very good crop levels. Medium to deep red colour with a good purple tint, the bouquet is spicy and black-cherried, with forest berry touches. The wine is full in the mouth and ample, smoothly-textured and rounded, with boldness and a big finish that expands and lingers a long time. Stacks of cheery-like fruit but remarkably complex at the same tim. Really fine, lovely wine.

Grown on the limestone-rich slopes of Pouilly-Fuissé AOC, in the Mâconnais subregion of southern Burgundy.

In celebration of Domaine Thomson’s 20th Anniversary, we are proud to introduce the Explorer Reserve Pinot Noir 2020 — a truly once-in-a-lifetime release. Produced for the first and only time, this wine represents one of the rarest offerings in our history. With just 100 cases produced, the Explorer Reserve stands as a defining moment in our journey — an expression of two decades of passion, patience, and precision.

To honour our long-standing supporters, this wine is being released in carefully managed small lots throughout the year. We are now preparing a limited release of 191 bottles just before Christmas — held back especially for those who missed out earlier, or who wish to secure another bottle for their cellar. This Christmas allocation reflects our commitment to ensuring those who love and appreciate our wines always have fair access to something truly special.

We are honoured that Sam Kim has awarded this wine an outstanding 95 points:
“Gorgeously complex and seductive, the bouquet shows dark berry, dried herb, cured meat, mushroom, and nutmeg aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that’s juicy and velvety.
